Service Description

Longing for connection, family, community, shared experience, meaning-making and closeness? For the first time in human history, we are at a very real risk of isolation from each other. The World Health Organisation have declared loneliness a 'global health public health concern'. Vivek Murphy, the current and 21st US Surgeon General, writes “Loneliness, ran like a dark thread through many of the more obvious issues that people brought to my attention.” "Not only does it undermine physical and mental health, but," in his diagnosis, "it underpins many of our more pernicious ills, including violence, addiction and extremism." "The antidote", he says, "is human connection". Fragmentation of the family, the break down of community, gaping holes in the fabric of society, have left us vulnerable to diseases of loneliness, depression and dis-integration. Anger, sorrow, anxiety, emptiness and numbness are all signs of disconnection. We see it across the generations. Gen Z's school refusal, Baby Boomer's glazed over in aged care facilities, Gen Y's social anxiety, Gen X's distraction and addictions. That a google search for "3 generations women in nature" reveals only options of three-generations of cultures OTHER than Western, OR those of three western women taking selfies (try it yourself!) In this half-day experience, we will: Be silently guided by nature. Rest in a safe space for deep relaxation. Be restored by the elements of fire, earth, air and water. Hear each other's anger, sorry, anxiety and emptiness. Be pulled by the inner longings for connection, trust, openness and release. Celebrate nature's gifts and beauties...rich and rare. This course is part of my learning, growth and offering in End-of-Life Compassionate Care, as mentored by Wesley Hospital Chaplain, Leanne Duncan.
