Hypnobirthing - The Mongan Method

Childbirth Education for a safer, easier, more comfortable birth

HypnoBirthing is based on the premise that birth is a normal, natural event, for which a woman's body is designed.   According to HypnoBirthing, the pain so commonly associated with labour is caused by tension and fear, which, through the practice of self-hypnosis, can be replaced with calm and confidence.

5 things you probably didn’t know about HypnoBirthing:

1.   Hypnosis is simply a state of deep relaxation in which we can replace fear and stubbornly-held beliefs with the suggestion of a more positive outcome.

2.    HypnoBirthing encourages the natural cascade of birthing hormones so essential for natural pain relief, efficient uterine contractions and successful breastfeeding.

3.    HypnoBirthing has taken the UK by storm – so much so that the government are offering a generous grant to parents who complete the course.

4.  More often than not, midwives and obstetricians comment that attending a HypnoBirth is the most calm and well-handled birth they have ever attended.

5.  Research shows that:

“women using hypnosis rated their labour pain less severe
….hypnosis increased the incidence of not requiring pharmacological analgesia .”

Other benefits of HypnoBirthing include:

1. Hands-on involvement of partner's at birth, increasing satisfaction for birthing woman and her partner.

2. Calmer, safer and more comfortable birth experience for mother and baby.

3.  Increased birth weight and fewer premature babies.

4.  Relaxation skills essential to calm parenting.

5.  Relaxation skills that compensate for lack of sleep in new parents.

6. Improved chances of successful bonding and breastfeeding (through lack of interference with natural hormonal cascade)

7. Faster maternal recovery and reduced likelihood of post-natal-depression.
